About Rainbow Child Care
East St Tammany Rainbow Child Care Center, Inc. was established in October 1983 as an outreach mission of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and Macedonia Baptist Church. The original center was located in the Fellowship Hall of Macedonia Baptist Church on Bryan Road in Slidell. In 1985, the center moved into a building on Aldersgate’s campus. In 1986, Rainbow became a United Way Partner Agency. Rainbow moved to its present location 121 Kingspoint Boulevard in 1990. The center was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. It was rebuilt thanks to the generosity of our local community through Rotary International and.
Rainbow is a non-profit 501c3, Louisiana licensed, 4 Star Quality Rated child care facility with the capacity to care for 92 children between 1 – 5 years of age.
Rainbow offers a Pre-K program for children turning 4 by October of the program year. The curriculum aligns with Louisiana Common Core Standards. Through a collaborative grant (Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy Program) with St. Tammany Parish School Board, our class room activities support the Splash Curriculum currently being provided in St Tammany Parish public schools. Early literacy and learning are fun at Rainbow! Our staff strives to ensure that EACH child is ready for kindergarten.
It is my honor to share with you a glimpse into our past, as we celebrate 33 years of serving families in St. Tammany Parish. Rainbow Child Care Center was established in 1983 as a mission project of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and Macedonia Baptist Church to address the need of affordable child care in our community. The Center was the vision of Mr. Bill Speers and It’s mission was to provide a quality child care program to working families in the Greater Slidell area..
Over the course of its existence, Rainbow has faced many challenges. In the early years, the challenge was funding. United Way recognized the value of early learning and invested in our program in 1987. We’ve proudly remained a United Way Partner Agency for 29 years. Then, there was Hurricane Katrina. It was during this time that so many people in Southeast Louisiana experienced monumental loss. We were no exception. Rainbow may not have been here to celebrate 33 years if it were not for the generosity of both Slidell Rotary’s and San Jose Rotary in California. We remain, forever grateful. Today, we face the toughest economic climate that we’ve seen in a long time. The one constant ray of hope reflected in our past, is the determination of the people in our community, and beyond to make a difference where making a difference really counts, for the children of our community.
To know Rainbow, is to love Rainbow. On any given day, you can walk the halls of the Center and look into the faces of our children and see the promise of a brighter future. Be inspired to know that the vision of Mr. Bill Speers and the support of our community has made it possible for children to enter kindergarten ready and for parents to be able work and continue their education. We look forward to the opportunity to serve our community for many years to come and we thank you for your interest in Rainbow and for carrying our mission forward.
We’re making a difference, one child at a time.
